This meteorite is one of only 15 associated with a crater larger than 10 meters across. The Veevers crater was discovered in in Western Australia in the 1970's and named after an Australian geologist. The crater is about 1 million years old and is one of only 2 craters older than 50,000 years that have meteorites associated with them. In 1984, thirty-six small metallic fragments, the largest weighing 36.3g,were collected from around a crater 80 meters in diameter. A total of about 1 kilogram of fragments have now been found. Veevers is classified as a coarsest octahedrite IIAB (iron). Veevers is one of only two impact craters where group IIAB meteorites have been discovered. The other is the Sikhote-Alin crater group in Russia.
