Sahara 97176 |

Sahara 97176 was found in the Sahara desert in July 1997. A single stone was found weighing 1176 grams. It was classified as an H5 with a shock rating of S3 and weathering grade W2. It has a fayalite (Fa) measurement of 18.7 and a fosterite (Fs) measurement of 16.6. This was one of the first meteorites to come out of the Sahara and as a result it was officially listed and classified. Most of the ordinary chondrites found in the last couple years in the Sahara have not been classified.
