This
beautiful mesosiderite was found as several masses, totaling 16.3 kg, about 6
miles WSW of Morristown, Hamblen Co., Tennessee, USA in 1887. This
particular slice was listed as part of the collection of the Marquis de Mauroy
in his 1909 catalog. It was part of his donation to the Vatican collection
earlier this century and was recently acquired in trade. It weighs
235.3 grams and measures about 10 by 7.5 cm and is about 1cm thick.
The largest of the metal nodules is about 2.5 cm across. It is classified
as a type 3a mesosiderite.
