Imilac |
| For Sale |
Imilac was found in 1822 in
the Atacama Desert of Northern Chile. Imilac is classified as a
stony-iron, Pallasite. Pallasites are composed of olivine and iron/nickel
and are thought to be from the core- mantle boundary of a body big enough to
have melted. The Olivine grains are completely enclosed by a
continuous network of iron/nickel. In the case of Imilac the olivine
grains are weathered. Only on large specimens (over 1 kilogram) are
complete olivine grains found. Smaller specimens are found as metal
skeletons. Only some of which have weathered remnants of olivine
crystals such as these specimens.
Imilac has been hunted hard the last few years and very little is being found
anymore and most of what has found recently are small pieces less than 5
grams. This is a very nice batch of decent sized Imilac individuals
below as well as some part slices..
